ALMA · WHY FOOD?

Food connects.
People and nature.

What we grow, make and eat shapes life far beyond the plate. That makes food a powerful place to begin.

For a living
planet.

How we produce food shapes our climate, biodiversity, and the use of land and water.

Why it matters

Food systems are a major driver of pressure on several planetary boundaries. Changing how food is produced and consumed can address interconnected environmental challenges.

Better diets can support well-being and reduce the risk of diet-related disease.

Why it matters

Unhealthy diets are a leading risk for disease, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers. Healthier food choices should be easier to understand and make.

suffering.

We believe the way animals are treated in our food system must change.

Why it matters

A better food system should take animal suffering seriously. For Alma, how animals are raised, treated and used for food is an ethical responsibility.

Good food should be accessible, and the people behind it should be able to thrive.

Why it matters

We want better food to become an everyday possibility. That means considering both the people who choose it and the livelihoods of those who grow and make it.

A social and economic ambition.

ALMA · LET’S MOVE FORWARD

Better food is possible. Let’s make it happen. Together.

From the people who produce our food to the people who choose it, we all have a part to play.

ALMA · OUR APPROACH

One vision. Three ways forward.

We begin with practical tools for producers, then build towards easier access to good food and shared innovation.

Business & Organisation

Marian

Marian has been interested in environmental issues and sustainability since childhood. After completing his business studies, he helped develop a circular economy technology for producing phosphate fertilisers and worked on a science education platform with the motto: “Understanding the world around us helps us appreciate it.”

While preparing a nutrition workshop for that platform, he came to understand just how profoundly food affects both our environment and our well-being. That insight sparked his desire to make a difference in this field.

He went on to plan, finance and build a food manufacturing facility from the ground up. He sold its products through his own online shop and a range of other channels, including supermarket chains such as REWE, EDEKA and BIO COMPANY. Through this experience, he gained a firsthand understanding of the demands and challenges of producing and marketing food. He has since trained as a software developer. With Alma, he now wants to develop the tools he wishes he had had back then.
